The Scarborough Men's Shed is part of a global movement to
bring men together in the spirit of camaraderie.
Building projects and friendships
- The Scarborough Men's Shed: The Men's Shed is a friendly, welcoming place where men can connect, share skills, and contribute to the community. Whether you're into woodworking, fixing things, or just having a chat over coffee, the Shed is a place to belong and build together. There are Men's Sheds all over the world, including 160+ here in Canada. Learn more about the Men's Shed movement.
- Diverse pursuits: While the workshop is a central hub, our focus extends beyond woodworking. Members' interests might include fixing or restoring household items or community cleanup initiatives. For those drawn to the natural world, we may organize nature walks or backcountry wilderness adventures. These excursions provide a change of pace from the shop, foster greater opportunities for camaraderie and outdoor skill-sharing.
- Everyone's contribution has value: We put our collective expertise to work, capitalising on the skills of the Shed members, growing our knowledge and our experiences by sharing, teaching and learning from each other.
All Skills Welcome
- You don’t need to be an expert to join. Our members range from beginners to retired tradespeople to men who have no interest at all in the shop or the tools.
- If tools and machinery are your thing, every new member is assessed for competency through comprehensive safety protocols. Before using any power tools or heavy machinery, our shop leads ensure you understand their safe operation. Your safety is a top priority.
- Of course, sometimes the Shed is just a place to connect, no tools or projects required.
Tools, Projects, and Community
- Access to industrial-grade wood-working equipment and tools for your own creative ideas or Shed group projects.
- Our members decide what projects we work on collectively and also guide us in applying our collective expertise to projects we take on that benefit the community.
- Sometimes the most important tool in the Shed is the kettle. If you are so inclined, feel free to just come by for a coffee and a chat.
- Scarborough Men's Shed is fortunate to be hosted by our President in his private commercial workshop. We will have access to this space and the tools and machinery for the foreseeable future.
